Currently on view at the MFA, “Fashioned by Sargent”, an exhibit organized with Tate Britain, explores John Singer Sargent’s portraits and fashion. This month we’re highlighting his work and its impact on fashion.

In Vogue’s June 1999 issue, Vogue’s photographer Steven Meisel reimagined Nicole Kidman as one of John Singer Sargent’s notable portraits. The outfits and images are stunning. Check them out if you haven’t already seen them.

The mezzo-soprano and society hostess Mrs. George Swinton, known as Elsie, is actor Tilda Swinton’s great-grandmother. Her portrait painted by John Singer Sargent can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago. Channeling her family history, the actor reimagines Sargent’s portraits.
